Forty-eight years of heavy industrial work

Halvorsen Industrial Contractors started in 1978 as a two-truck rigging outfit working the steel mills along the Indiana lakefront. The mills taught us the thing we still organise around: in a running plant, the schedule is the product. Everything else is table stakes.

Today we are 140 craft and staff, with a 40,000 square foot fabrication shop in Portage and our own fleet of gantries, slide systems, forklifts, and hydraulic trailers. Owning the equipment is what lets us commit to a date, because we are not waiting on a rental yard in the middle of your outage.

We self-perform millwright, rigging, and structural steel. That matters most on outage work, where handoffs between trades are where the hours disappear. One general foreman owns the window from shutdown to restart, and that person is on site for all of it.

Most of our work is repeat work for plants within a four hour drive: cement, grain, chemical, automotive, and aggregate. We would rather be the contractor a plant calls for twenty years than the low bid on a job we have to argue about.
